BioMicro Systems Awarded a U.S. Patent on Its Invention of an Ultra-Low Volume Laminated Microarray Hybridization Chamber
Salt Lake City, Utah – July 17, 2007 – BioMicro® Systems, a market leader in microarray hybridization products, today announced that it has been awarded U.S. Patent 7,235,400 which the company refers to as the “MAUI® Mixer Patent.” The MAUI Mixer Patent was awarded to the company for the invention of a laminated, ultra-low volume (10-40 microliters), microarray hybridization chamber, which allows simultaneous processing of one or multiple microarray(s) on a single glass substrate.
The MAUI Mixer hybridization chamber allows for Active Mixing of fluids over the entire surface of the microarray that enables a 3-10 fold increase in sensitivity relative to other hybridization methods. MAUI Mixers are available in many different configurations to accommodate a growing number of commercially available and custom microarrays, including the four-chamber MAUI Mixer M4 model. BioMicro Systems applied for the MAUI Mixer Patent on August 2, 2002 and it was awarded June 26, 2007.
“This MAUI Mixer Patent has significantly strengthened the BioMicro patent portfolio,” said Michael Feldman, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of BioMicro Systems. “This MAUI Patent serves as an affirmation that our research and development team’s expertise in microfluidics has resulted in an innovative hybridization chamber technology that outperforms other hybridization platforms.”
The MAUI Mixer Key Benefits include the following:
- Low sample volume (10-40 microliters)
- Multiple samples processed concurrently on a slide
- Labeled target recovery/buffer exchange
- Adaptable to various microarray configurations
- Minimal sample evaporation
BioMicro Systems key products include:
- MAUI Hybridization System, a breakthrough microarray hybridization solution designed for gene expression studies
- MAUI Mixers, a novel product line of microarray hybridization chambers that address researchers’ high-throughput needs
